Collagen Induction Therapy

DermarollaCollagen Induction Therapy (C.I.T) is also known as ‘skin needling’ and is used to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, thereby tightening the complexion.

To treat: Smooth facial lines including perioral (mouth) lines, improve skin texture, smooth scarring and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

What is C.I.T?
Collagen Induction Therapy uses a Dermaroller or Skin Stamp to gently stimulate the skin using very fine needles, similar to those used in acupuncture. In addition to stimulating the skin to produce more collagen, this treatment also permits deeper infusion of topical applications, which greatly increases the penetration and effectiveness of topical creams. Refresh Skin Clinic performs medical grade C.I.T treatment, using the German-made Dermaroller, which has been proven by scientific and clinical studies to assist with skin and scar tissue regeneration. The Skin Stamp is ideal for small areas on the face, such as to target crow’s feet or for areas of pigmentation.

What is C.I.T used to treat?
By increasing the production of collagen and elastin, C.I.T is highly effective at diminishing acne pitting and scarring after several treatments, with deeper scars filling in over time – usually after five or six treatments. C.I.T is also beneficial for reducing the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, reducing the size of enlarged pores and softening the appearance of stretchmarks.

Is the treatment painful?
A treatment requires topical anaesthetic and takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Most clients find this treatment very tolerable.

How long does it take to work and how long will it last?
The production of new collagen and elastin in the skin continues for a few months after each treatment and the therapy can be enhanced with the application of topical active ingredients such as Vitamins A and C, hyaluronic acid, growth factors, peptides and lightening ingredients, which Linda will tailor to your skin’s needs. Results are cumulative, so multiple treatments are usually necessary to achieve significant improvements, which are usually seen within 4-6 weeks of each treatment. Treatment may be repeated every 6-8 weeks to increase the effects.

Are there any side effects?
The skin may be slightly pink or appear ‘sunburned’ for the first 24-48 hours after your treatment and it can also feel a little sunburned. There is no downtime associated with C.I.T, although you may like to wear mineral makeup on the skin to cover redness. You will need to take extra care to avoid sun exposure for at least the first 48 hours after treatment.

Can anyone have C.I.T?
Most people are able to experience excellent results with Collagen Induction Therapy, however skin conditions that should not be treated include: severe active acne, eczema, skin cancer, warts, raised moles, rosacea and psoriasis.
